Arsenal are set to up the ante in its chase for long-term target Karim Benzema, according to reports.
The Real Madrid striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates in recent days, and The Telegraph reports the Gunners are preparing to table a £35m offer for the former Lyon man.
It had been reported that Arsenal had a £31m bid rejected by the La Liga giants for the French international, but Arsene Wenger is understood to be extremely keen in luring his countrymen to North London.
Wenger is believed to want to take some of the workload off target man Olivier Giroud and the addition of Benzema would no doubt help the Gunners become serious title contenders next season.
Benzema’s price should cetrtainly not trouble Arsenal, with club director Lord Harris telling The Daily Mail the club has £200m in coffers waiting to be spent.
The 27-year-old has scored 87 goals in 188 La Liga appearances for Real Madrid since joining the club in 2009.
