Gunners monitoring Lopez situation as Wenger eyes new keeper.Arsenal could be set to pounce for Real Madrid backup goalkeeper Diego Lopez as he looks set to leave the Bernabeu this summer, according to Fichajes.net.
The 32-year-old has enjoyed some first-team action in recent times after controversially displacing Iker Casillas as the club’s number one in goal, though he lost his place again towards the end of last season.
With the club now expected to move for in-demand Levante and Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas, Lopez may find himself even further down in the pecking order, which could prompt him to consider a move elsewhere.
The Gunners seem intent on bringing in a new goalkeeper this summer after the departure of Lukasz Fabianski on a free, with Arsene Wenger keen to have someone to challenge Wojciech Szczesny for a starting spot between the sticks.
Arsenal have been linked with Lopez in the past, showing an interest in him during his time at previous club Villarreal, though a move never materialised on that occasion.
The north London side have also recently been linked with Lopez’s Madrid team-mate Sami Khedira.
