Both Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in signing an England international midfielder, and could enter talks with his club regarding a potential deal for the 28-year-old.
Manchester City ace James Milner is being targeted by both the Premier League giants, as he’s reportedly discontent with his peripheral role at the Etihad, claims the Daily Star, who reckon the 45-cap star could be available for as little as £10m.
Milner’s been selected for Roy Hodgson’s England World Cup squad, and countless managers have relied and trusted him in a number of roles because of his incomparable work-rate, excellent attitude, and defensive contribution.
Under Manuel Pellegrini this season though, City favoured a more attacking, free-flowing approach, meaning the Chilean boss more often selected Samir Nasri and David Silva in attacking midfield positions instead of Milner.
In fact, Milner was only awarded 12 Premier League starts, and at 28, he believes it’s time to leave and play the integral role in a team his ability probably deserves.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal are keen on strengthening this summer, with the former especially desperate to bolster their midfield options ahead of a first Champions League campaign since 2009. The Reds have already made a £20m bid for Adam Lallana, but with Southampton holding out for more, Milner could provide a cheaper alternative.
Arsene Wenger has reportedly been given a £100m budget, and could rival Liverpool for his signature.
Milner’s versatility makes him an attractive option, because he can play in central midfield, and do a good job on either wing, too. While at Aston Villa, he used to play in a more creative attacking midfield role for Aston Villa, where he bagged 12 in 2009/10.
