Bale to Madrid?
The story that will not go away. Real Madrid, smarting having been beaten comprehensively in La Liga and to the signature of the planet’s most exciting young star by Barcelona, are looking to strike back. Whilst Neymar represents pure potential, Bale, still just 23, has proven that he’s near enough the finished article. Spurs are understandably reluctant to sell but a bid in the region of £85M, as mooted by the Mail this week, may force their hand. Zidane may be singing the Welshman’s praises from the rooftop but any action seems to depend on how happy Bale is in London. He has a young family settled in the UK but an agent who is more than keen to hawk him around. Crucially though, he’s contracted till 2016 at White Hart Lane and spoke on Thursday in glowing terms of his admiration for Andre Villas Boas. It looks, for now, like it’ll be a frustrating summer for the Real.
