Gunners to hand trial to experienced defensive ace.
Arsenal are set to hand a shock trial to Al Ahly full-back Ahmed Fathi in a bid to find a replacement for the recently departed Bacay Sagna, according to Egyptian website King Fut.
The Gunners are believed to be willing to offer a trial to the 29-year-old as they struggle to find a suitable player to fill in for the veteran Frenchman as the new season approaches.
Reports in Egypt have suggested that the Pharaoh’s international will link up with the north London side for a ten-day stint on Monday after heeling his current side to lift the title in the crucial decider against Smouha.
Fathi has enjoyed a fine degree of success recently, winning two back-to-back African Champions Leagues with Al Ahly, as well as being nominated for Player of the Year last season.
He is no stranger to English football either, having spent six months on loan with Hull City last season making just eight appearances as the Tigers made their triumphant return to the Premier League.
This would be Fathi’s second trial with the Gunners, as he was previously tested as a 20-year-old by Wenger in 2004, and participated in a 2-1 friendly win against Grazer AK, before joining Sheffield United.
