Arsenal, Tottenham, and Manchester United are scrapping over the possibility of signing Everton star James McCarthy, reports the Daily Star.

The midfielder was promised a new contract in the summer to match his improved performances, but no offer has materialised and this could unsettle the first team regular.
However, the 24-year-old could still cost a large amount of money as his current deal runs until 2018 and the Toffees are not known for selling cheap. The Irishman arrived at Goodison Park 18 months ago for £13 million.
The Merseyside club’s disappointing season could also mean that the player is more likely to leave. The Blues are in 14th in the Premier League and are actually closer to the relegation zone than the top half.
Arsenal and Manchester United are both short of a defensive midfielder, while McCarthy would be an improvement on Tottenham’s Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb.
