Manchester United have told clubs that they will have to pay a £5m loan fee to sign Danny Welbeck for the season, according to the Sun.
The England international, reportedly a target for both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, is the latest of this United squad set to be cleared out by Louis van Gaal, but could move at a price even if he only leaves on loan.
This may be a tactic to persuade clubs to pay Welbeck’s £15m asking price for a permanent transfer, though it remains to be seen if the Red Devils will find many willing buyers for an Old Trafford squad player.
United have already sold Shinji Kagawa and loaned out both Nani and Wilfried Zaha this summer, as van Gaal’s squad starts to take shape for the new season.
Welbeck looks like the next to depart, which could leave United short of options in attack as Javier Hernandez also looks set to move on loan to Real Madrid.
