Barcelona youngster Sergi Samper is set to hold talks with Premier League giants Arsenal over a move to the Emirates, according to reports.
Samper has recently been linked with a move to the Gunners, and Daily Express [via Mundo Deportivo] Sampers’ agent Pere Guardiola is set to hold crunch talks with Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez over the midfielder’s future.
While it is believed Samper is keen to remain at the Camp Nou, Mundo Deportivo reports the 20-year-old does not want to again feature for Barcelona’s ‘B’ side and is ‘attracted’ to a move to Arsenal.
The Gunners are understood to be willing to trigger Samper’s £8.4m release clause and Mundo Deportivo claim Arsene Wenger has twice previously attempted to sign the Spanish youth international.
The Catalonian publication stated that Wenger views Samper as a long-term replacement for fellow Spaniard Mikel Arteta.
Samper’s price will certainly not trouble Arsenal, with Lord Harris telling The Daily Mail the club has £200m in coffers waiting to be spent.
