The north Londoners are tracking Saints right-back Chambers.
With Bacary Sagna likely to leave the club in the summer, Arsenal have lined up Southampton starlet Calum Chambers as the Frenchman’s replacement, according to the Mirror.
The Gunners right-back has been in brilliant form for the side this season and the north London club are desperate to tie the 30-year-old down to a new deal.
Sagna’s current contract at the Emirates Stadium expires at the end of this campaign, but negotiations have gone nowhere over extending that.
It means that manager Arsene Wenger is having to look to alternatives for the France international and has identified the 19-year-old Chambers as the ideal candidate.
The teenager has impressed this term – most notably in the 2-2 draw with Wenger’s men in January – and the Englishman has played 15 matches in all competitions in 2013/14.
Chambers is a product of the prolific Saints youth academy, which has also produced current Arsenal stars Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in recent times.
The full-back progressed to the first team at St Mary’s at the beginning of this season and is already giving Nathaniel Clyne a run for his money for a place in the starting XI.
Chambers is the England under-19 captain and has 13 caps at that level and is expected to move up to Gareth Southgate’s under-21 squad in the near future.
If Wenger is serious about signing the defender the 64-year-old would probably have to part with around £10m, as Mauricio Pochettino does not want to let his talented youngster leave the south coast.
