Arsenal close in on Dimitar Berbatov…
Arsenal are closing in on a £2m deal for Fulham striker and former Manchester United ace Dimitar Berbatov, reports the Sun.
The 32-year-old Bulgarian forward could join the table topping side despite his relatively poor start to the season. He’s scored four goals for the Cottagers, but has been criticised for his poor work-rate and attitude in a first half of a season that sees Fulham sit just two points above the relegation zone.
With Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner both now sidelined with injuries, Arsene Wenger is desperate for striking reinforcements, to make sure his side’s title push doesn’t derail.
German wing-forward Lukas Podolski started up top against Cardiff on New Year’s Day, but didn’t do too much before being hauled off after the hour mark.
Berbatov is known for his elegant, lazy style, outstanding technical ability and vision, and his cool finishing. In a side that will create chances, (as Arsenal undoubtedly will) he’s more than capable of vastly improving his season’s goal tally – although it remains to be seen whether Arsenal fans will warm to a player who used to play for Tottenham and Manchester United.
