The north London team still want the German wonderkid.
Schalke 04 starlet Julian Draxler remains a transfer target for Arsenal and the club are prepared to make one last ditch effort to sign the German, according to the Mirror.
The Gunners have been linked with the 20-year-old for some time, with stories circulating that Draxler had visited the side’s training facilities and that the player openly admitted a move to north London would interest him.
However, since then no developments in the transfer have come about and the north London team are set to hold talks with the Bundesliga club over a £35m switch.
The side want to bring in Draxler in this January window in order to avoid a bidding war with several other top sides in the summer.
Yet with manager Arsene Wenger admitting that deadline day may pass without them completing any deals, this looks unrealistic.
It may seem like an odd choice from the club to sign yet another attacking midfielder when they already have an abundance at the Emirates Stadium and a new striker may seem like a better way to spend the money.
However, Wenger has identified Draxler as the perfect player to convert to a more advanced role and be moulded by the Frenchman to play in a similar style to that of Robin van Persie.
Schalke understandably do not want to sell the Germany international, as they push to achieve Champions League football once again this term.
