Sochaux have rejected an offer for defender Corchia.
Lille have had an offer rejected by Sochaux for right-back and Arsenal target Sebastien Corchia, despite the fact the defender wants to leave, according to French daily L’Equipe.
Corchia was strongly linked with the Gunners in the summer, as talkSPORT reports, with manager Arsene Wenger looking for a long-term replacement for Bacary Sagna.
Sagna’s current contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in the summer and although negotiations have taken place, it looks highly likely that an agreement will not be reached between the two parties.
This would leave Wenger with only youngster Carl Jenkinson available as a recognised right-back and support would be needed in the position.
Corchia has been impressing in Ligue 1 ever since a transfer to Sochuax from Le Mans in 2011, having played 96 matches in all competitions for the club since.
The 23-year-old is an attacking full-back who likes to get forward and is strong at crossing – attributes that are similar to fellow Frenchman Sagna.
In fact this term the former France under-21 international has provided five assists from 20 league appearances and also has the capability to operate at left-back or even right midfield.
Lille have been in good form again this campaign and are the closest challengers at the top of the table to rich boys AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.
The side see Corchia as the ideal competition for Franck Beria, but will clearly have to up their offer if Sochaux are to be convinced to part with their prized possession.
