The Gunners are chasing Real Sociedad’s Griezmann.
Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann has emerged as a serious January transfer target for Arsenal as the club prepare a £20m bid, reports the Metro.
Manager Arsene Wenger has been promised more funds in the New Year despite having already spent a club record £42.4m on Mesut Ozil in the summer.
The north London club have looked strong this term, topping the Premier League with a five point gap and having progressed to the last-16 of the Champions League.
However, there are question marks remaining over the strength in depth of their attack and Wenger has targeted Griezmann as the first new acquisition.
The Frenchman is a product of the Sociedad youth academy and broke into the first team in the summer of 2011.
Since then the 22-year-old has played 173 matches for the club in all competitions and helped them to a top four finish in La Liga last campaign.
This term Griezmann has been in stunning form in front of goal and has already netted nine league goals in just 13 appearances.
It’s this touch that makes Wenger want to bring in the forward as cover for the heavily relied upon Olivier Giroud – despite the fact the France under-21 international generally operates as a winger.
Griezmann usually plays on the left flank, cutting inside and shooting on sight and the fact that the attacker is poor at crossing means there is room for the player to be groomed into a more central role.
