The Gunners boss has revealed the club’s transfer plans.
As the January transfer window draws ever nearer Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says the club will not be making another bid for Liverpool star Luis Suarez.
However, it’s not all bad news for Gunners fans as the man in charge of the current Premier League leaders insists that the north London side are in the market for a ‘special player.’
“There won’t be any approach, no,” Wenger was quoted by Sky Sports when asked about signing Suarez.
“We are as many clubs, certainly on alert.
“If something special turns up, we will not turn it down.”
Wenger tried to sign Suarez in the summer but negotiations fell through after the club thought wrongly that the forward had a release clause of £40m.
The side’s bid of £40m plus one pound fell on deaf ears at Anfield, where the Reds hierarchy slammed the offer as disrespectful.
Despite also chasing Gonzalo Higuain, Wenger’s men ended up with no marquee signing up-front, but did land Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for a club record £42.4m,
Since then the side have been flying high in the English top tier and with half the matches now completed, sit top of the table.
There are however some concerns that the squad lacks depth – particularly in central defence and attack – and that recruitment in these areas in the New Year is vital to maintain a title challenge.
