Mario Mandzukic (Bayern Munich)
With Bayern Munich already having announced the signing of Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund, Mario Mandzukic faces a struggle to get into Pep Guardiola’s starting XI for his second season in charge of the Bundesliga champions.
The Croatian forward is actually the top scorer in the Bundesliga, with 17 goals in his 18 starts compared to Lewandowski’s 16 in 26, but the Pole’s superior build-up play looks likely to see him lead the line for the Bavarian giants next term.
Mandzukic is an exceptionally hard working striker, excellent in the air, and a decent finisher.
Despite Olivier Giroud’s height and powerful physique, of his 20 goals in all competitions so far this term, only two have been headers.
Mandzukic has managed ten, and could represent a useful option for the Gunners – whether as Plan A or B.
