Casilla says he will stay on at Espanyol next season.
Arsenal’s goalkeeper target Kiko Casilla has refuted rumours linking him with a move away from his current club Espanyol by stating that he would continue at the La Liga side next season.
The 27-year-old has just one more year left on his current deal at Espanyol, but he wants to see his contract out and possibly even sign a new contract at the end of next term.
“This summer I will not leave. My first intention is to complete this year that I have left [on my contract] and then to continue for more years,” Casilla was quoted by talkSPORT.
“If I leave, I am not going to leave for free. But I do not want to leave.”
Arsenal have been mildly linked with a move for the former Real Madrid reserve player this summer, but it looks like he won’t be the man to replace Lukasz Fabianski at the Emirates Stadium.
Fabianksi ran down his contract at Arsenal last season before moving to Swansea City on a free transfer this summer, and the Gunners are now looking at various options to replace the Polish international.
The North Londoners might need to sign two more goalkeepers this summer, and are reportedly closing in on Colombian ‘keeper David Ospina, who impressed boss Arsene Wenger at the 2014 World Cup.
