Simon Mignolet’s agent says his client will not accept a contract extension with the club this summer, and has hinted the Belgium international plans to switch clubs to further his career.
The goalkeeper has been linked with both Arsenal and Liverpool after a fine season for the Black Cats and now looks likely to seal a dream move in order to boost his chances of playing in the 2014 World Cup.
“I think it is very unlikely that he will sign a new contract,” Mignolet’s agent Nico Vaesen told thr Sunderland Echo.
“Simon has obviously come to a point where he wants to step up a level and there is a lot of interest in him.
“He is very ambitious and wants to play in the World Cup, in Brazil, next year.”
Mignolet has yet to make a formal decision on his future, and was adamant that he wouldn’t make up his mind until he was finished with international duty.
The 24-year old has kept 11 clean sheets this season and has two years left on his current deal at the Stadium of Light.
