Benzema, Mandzukic and Draxler could all replace the Frenchman.
With Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa set to join Chelsea in the summer the Spanish league leaders want Olivier Giroud of Arsenal as replacement, according to the Daily Mail.
The France international joined the Gunners from Montpellier in 2012, although has come under serious criticism since arriving in England and many fans wouldn’t be disappointed to see the striker leave.
This is further emphasised by the fact that the north Londoners are lining up some world-class replacements for Giroud if the 27-year-old were to leave.
Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Mario Mandzukic of Bayern Munich are two of those that have been named as potential signings at the Emirates Stadium, whilst Schalke 04’s Julian Draxler could be moulded into a forward by Arsene Wenger.
Atletico meanwhile are on the hunt for a new man in attack as they have become resigned to the fact that top-scorer Costa will be sold in the summer.
The 25-year-old has made the step up to fill the void left by Radamel Falcao’s departure to AS Monaco last year by scoring 35 goals in 47 matches in all competitions.
Yet the Spain international has a £32m release clause in his contract and reports are the Blues are willing to meet that as they look to improve in the final third.
Atleti manager Diego Simeone has admitted this could well happen and they are looking to the likes of Giroud, Fernando Torres and QPR’s Loic Remy as a replacement to Costa.
