Richards became available this summer after telling City of his desire to move on in search of increased first team opportunities, with the Premier League winner eventually sealing a move to Serie A outfit Fiorentina on transfer deadline day.
Wenger instead moved to sign teenager Calum Chambers from Southampton for a fee of £16 million, with the newly capped England international having slotted seamlessly into the Gunners’ defence since his summer switch from St. Mary’s.
