Reports on Sunday suggested the Chile international had agreed to terms with the Gunners, and Juventus and Arsenal had agreed a £21m fee for the 28-year-old’s transfer to the Emirates.
However, The Sun reports Vidal was never on Arsenal’s radar, with a “high-ranking source” telling the newspaper that the Gunners have never been interested in signing the former Bayer Leverkusen man.
Vidal is currently on international duty with Chile at the Copa America, with his side set to face Peru in the semi-finals on Monday.
The Serie A star has scored 34 goals in 124 league appearances since joining the Bianconeri in 2011.
He found himself in hot water a fortnight ago after he was involved in a car accident in Santiago following his side’s 3-3 draw with Mexico during the group stage of the Copa America.
Vidal reportedly crashed his Ferrari head-on with a Chevrolet after leaving a casino, however both he and his wife María Teresa Matus escaped serious injury.
