Arsenal may be on the verge of completing a blockbuster transfer deal, as Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has had a breakthrough in his pursuit of Real Madrid star Karim Benzema.
According to The Metro, Wenger has convinced the Gunners board to make a £42.2m bid for the 27-year-old striker.
It will still be difficult for Arsenal to convince Benzema to join the Gunners since he is reportedly happy at Real Madrid, whom he has spent six years with.
They have already had a £31.3m bid rejected by the Spanish club, and their second bid of £40.5m has yet to be accepted or declined.
If Benzema were to give into the temptation to transfer to Arsenal, he would give the Gunners a threatening scoring attack.
They are still looking to upgrade at striker, as Olivier Giroud has fallen out of favor due to his inconsistent play.
Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott figure to be in line to be featured the most in the team’s offense.
Benzema would undoubtedly take pressure off of them though, as he has scored at least 20 goals in each of his last five seasons.
