The Gunners are reportedly trying to get right back Carl Jenkinson a new contract with the club before loaning him out for the second year in a row.
According to ESPN FC, the Arsenal defender – fresh off a very successful stint with West Ham United – has received interest from the likes of Sunderland, Southampton as well as West Ham, but Sunderland currently has a loan fee in place. But with the 23-year-old’s contract set to expire in 2018, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to secure his rising star’s services for a few more years before letting him leave.
ESPN FC reported that the arrivals of Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers last season prevented Jenkinson from earning a spot on the starting lineup as the Gunners finished 3rd on the Premier League table and won the FA Cup.
Wenger reportedly believes that Jenkinson still has a future with the team, but needs more experience on someone else’s roster.
