Arsenal may use the Emirates Cup as an opportunity to hold talks with opponents Benfica over the possible signing of Argentine winger Nicolas Gaitan, according to CaughtOffside.
The Gunners are keen to bring in a new signing in attack this summer with Santi Cazorla looking increasingly likely to make a return to Spain with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.
Alexis Sanchez has already joined the club in a £35m move from Barcelona and will be one of the club’s new signings on show in today’s match against the Portuguese giants, but Arsene Wenger’s spending may not be over yet.
Gaitan, who has been linked with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and AS Monaco in the past, now appears to be the Frenchman’s top priority transfer target after he ruled out a move for Porto starlet Juan Fernando Quintero yesterday.
The skillful winger, valued at around £30m, could be an excellent addition for the Gunners, and his ability to play on either flank and deliver good set pieces and a fierce long range shot should make him an ideal like-for-like replacement for Cazorla if he does make the move to the Vicente Calderon.
