North Londoners Arsenal want Spanish international star Iker Casillas as a replacement for Lukasz Fabianski, reports the Metro.
The 33-year old Real Madrid ace, who is unsure of his future at the Bernabeu after not being a regular at the club for the past few seasons, has been a target for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for a while now, and is seen by the Frenchman as the goalie with the right experience to be the first choice at the club.
Although 24-year old Wojciech Szczesny is currently Arsenal’s first choice in the Premier League, many believe that the Pole still needs developing, and being an understudy of Casillas for a season or so would not do the lanky goalie much harm. There have been question marks about whether the Spanish ace is past his prime and Arsenal obviously reckon that the star stopper still has enough left in the tank to make a significant impact for them.
Moreover, Arsenal could find a much needed leader of men in Casillas, who has captained Spain and Real Madrid to many a triumphs in the past, but it will be interesting to see whether the veteran will leave his boyhood club at this late stage in his career.
