The Gunners have been give the OK to sign Jackson Martinez after FC Porto rejected a bid from Atletico Madrid for the three-time Primera Liga Top goal scorer.
According to the Metro, Martinez is on Arsene Wenger’s radar in London – but will have to wait for the end of the Copa America in July to present FC Porto with a bid estimated at £25.7 million.
Over the last three years, Martinez has risen to become the best scorer in the entire Primera Liga, leading the Portuguese football league in scoring three straight years. This past season, Martinez set a career high with 32 goals in 41 appearances between Primera Liga, National Cup and Continental appearances.
Though Arsenal is certainly not lacking for talent, a dominating scoring threat like Martinez could be just what Wenger needs to get over the hump and break through the lockdown defenses of Chelsea and Man City that have plagued the Gunners for the last few seasons.
