The France international left Real Sociedad to join Atleti in a £23.8m deal, but it could have been so different as the Gunners and PSG both showed interest in the attacker.
“Why Spain and not elsewhere? This is my championship, my home. I’m happy here and Atletico is a great club. The [champions] were willing to pay €30 million [£23.8m] for me,” Griezmann was quoted by CaughtOffside.
“Was it weird when PSG and Arsenal were also interested? [Atletico are] still the champions of Spain!”
Griezmann moved to Spain aged 14 and progressed from the Sociedad youth system in 2009, going onto play 202 times for the club in all competitions and scoring 52 goals.
Since arriving at the Vicente Calderon Stadium the Frenchman has also impressed and has scored once and provided two assists so far for Atletico in 12 appearances.
Griezmann also has nine international caps to date.
