The Ligue 1 club gave Wenger is big managerial break and the last-16 match will be the first time the Frenchman has faced his former employers.
But speaking ahead of the match, Arsene Wenger insisted that there will be no room for sentiment and Arsenal will have to be ruthless to reach the quarterfinals for the first time in five seasons.
“I give my best to win the game,” said Wenger, reports Daily Star.
“Respect for your opponents means you give your best. When I play against my brother it’s the same. That’s part of our job.”
Wenger might now seem like a stalwart at the Emirates stadium but it was at Monaco where he began to earn his reputation as a top level coach.
After succeeding with lowly Nancy in the Frenh league, Wenger was snapped up by Monaco where he ended up spending seven seasons in the principality.
“I’m professional and I am competitive,” added the Arsenal boss.
“And as much as I respect Monaco, I am focused on doing my job well.”
