The Gunners expected to splash big cash on Real Madrid superstar…

Following their FA Cup victory over Hull City at the weekend, manager Arsene Wenger is close to penning a three year contract extension, and he’ll be rewarded with a mammoth £100m transfer budget as well…
The Daily Mail claim that the veteran French boss wants to sign a striker, a holding midfielder and a new right-back with the money, and that Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema is the no.1 target.
The Gunners currently deploy Olivier Giroud up top, and while the French international did actually notch 22 goals in all competitions last season, serious doubts have been consistently raised over his ability to perform well in big matches. Apart from Giroud, Wenger only has Yaya Sanogo, who failed to score a goal all season, and Nicklas Bendtner, who is leaving this summer on a free transfer, to call upon.
Benzema would undoubtedly provide the Gunners with fresh, exciting ammunition, and would get the mouths of Arsenal fans watering ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.
For Real Madrid last term, Benzema started poorly, and was actually booed early on in the season, with the Bernabeu faithful requesting that manager Carlo Ancelotti selected young Spaniard Alvaro Morata instead. His form eventually improved though, and he’s currently on 24 goals in all competitions for the season, with a Champions League final against bitter rivals Atletico Madrid to play on Saturday.
His ability to spearhead the side and create assists for Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale has been equally impressive, and his ability to bring other players into the game will no doubt please Arsene Wenger.
If Benzema were to arrive at the Emirates, he could rekindle his relationship with Mesut Ozil, who joined Arsenal from the Spanish giants last summer.
The striker prides himself on his finishing with either foot, and his ability to work himself chances as a result of his skill and quick feet.
Arsenal fans may be able to get a first look of their potential new forward at this summer’s World Cup, where he’ll likely lead the line for France, with Giroud on the bench.
Interestingly though, a deal may be only be possible if Real Madrid can bring in a top notch replacement, with Liverpool’s Luis Suarez reportedly a prime target.
