Arsenal star’s ankle injury sustained whilst on loan at Wigan Athletic means that his campaign is likely over.
Wigan Athletic’s on-loan Arsenal winger Ryo Miyaichi’s ankle injury rules him out for the season, Latics boss Roberto Martinez has reportedly told Sky Sports.
The winger sustained the blow in Wigan’s 0-3 away victory against Everton at Goodison Park in the FA Cup, in what was a rare appearance for the Japan international.
Miyaichi, who is 20 years of age, collided with the advertising boards after coming on as a substitute against the Toffees, and having replacing the injured Callum McManaman, had to be depart the field of play himself.
The Japan flyer has seen his career stall somewhat at Arsenal over the last year or so, and this is another blow to his progression.
Gunners fans were understandably delighted about the prospect of Miyaichi on their left flank, after a hugely successful loan spell at Dutch club Feyenoord in 2011.
Three goals and five assists in twelve Eredivisie appearances earned him the nickname Ryodinho amongst the club’s fans, and he was expected to push on to greater things in England.
That hasn’t yet happened for him though, with a mixed spell at Bolton Wanderers preceding his Wigan loan.
With a full summer of recovery, Miyaichi should be back to challenge for a place at Arsenal in pre-season.
