Serge Gnabry was not interested in loan move back to Stuttgart.
Arsenal teenager Serge Gnabry rejected the chance to return to Stuttgart on loan this summer, according to the sporting director of the Bundesliga club.
Gnabry, 18, has taken advantage of injuries to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott to force his way into the Gunners first team and scored his first senior goal in last month’s 2-1 win at Swansea.
The playmaker, who began his career at Stuttgart before moving to North London in 2011, has not looked out of place in Arsene Wenger’s side and Jochen Schneider says the player wanted to stay at the Emirates over the summer to fight for a starting spot.
“It’s true, he had the chance to return in the summer but he opted to fight for his chance at Arsenal and deserves every respect for this decision,’ Schneider told German daily Bild.
“After his goal in Swansea I sent his father a text to congratulate him.
“We will continue to monitor his progress, but if he continues to go down the path he is currently going and becomes a starter for Arsenal, it will get difficult.”
