Mesut Ozil‘s representatives have allegedly held talks with Besitkas over a shock switch from Arsenal.
Former Besiktas board member Erol Kaynar claimed on Turkish radio that Besiktas’s head of transfers Erdal Torunogullari met with Ozil’s agent last week.
“Erdal met with Mesut Ozil’s representatives last week and made an enquiry,” Kaynar is quoted by the Metro as saying.
The transfer appears unlikely on paper, with Ozil Arsenal’s record signing and one of the key players in their title-aspiring side.
But the Germany international was born in Turkey and may be attracted to a return home where he would be the biggest star in the Super Lig.
The World Cup winner has been widely criticised for under-performing in the Premier League since his £42.5m arrival from Real Madrid.
There is no shortage of money at Besitkas, so this one could come down to whether Ozil is ready to call it quits at Arsenal or wishes to stay and prove himself.
