The 23-year-old, who has made 44 senior appearances for the Premier League side, had a loan spell with German club SC Freiburg last season.
The former France under-21 international, who can also play as a full-back, first joined Arsenal back in 2008, but has so far failed to establish himself as a first team regular despite showing signs of some bright early promise.
He is eligible to make his debut for the Addicks in Tuesday’s Championship match at Leeds United.
Coquelin will also wear the number 12 shirt during his time at The Valley, though it is yet unknown whether he will be eligible to extend the deal beyond the proposed deadline.
