Arsenal are still hoping to shore up their defence before the 2015-16 Premier League season begins, and they are now going after Roma’s Alessio Romagnoli.
According to The Metro, the Gunners have been cleared to make a deal for the 21-year-old defender.
However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has not revealed whether he is willing to meet Romagnoli’s £25m transfer value.
It would be a risk for Arsenal to pay this sort of money for the Italian international, However, the Gunners may view him as a long-term investment.
The Gunners have already received a boost in the race for the Italian defender, as Inter Milan failed to reach a deal for him.
They had made a £20m bid for Romagnoli before being unable to agree to personal terms with him.
Romagnoli spent the majority of last season on a loan deal with Sampdoria, scoring two goals in 30 appearances.
