Arsenal’s imminent signing of 19-year old Southampton right-back Calum Chambers seems to have opened up the possibility of a loan spell away from the Emirates for 22-year old Carl Jenkinson, reports the Metro.
The once capped England international made 22 appearances for the Gunners as a backup to Bacary Sagna last season, and his chances could diminish further this term with French international Mathieu Debuchy coming in from Newcastle and highly rated Chambers also likely to slot in soon.
Jenkinson has shown promise in a number of games for the Gunners though and seems to have the basic attributes for a solid Premier League defender. The powerfully built youngster is reportedly wanted on loan by the Premier League quartet of West Ham, Sunderland, Swansea and Hull, who are all confident of having him on their rolls this coming season.
There is also a notion though that Arsene Wenger might keep Jenkinson within the squad and groom either him or Chambers as a backup centre-back option for the future.
