Arsenal’s new signing Danny Welbeck has hailed Thierry Henry alongside Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs as his two main idols in football, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The 23-year-old, a £16m deadline day signing from rivals United this summer, has been full of praise for his new side since moving to the Emirates Stadium, revealing his long-time admiration for arguably their greatest-ever player Henry.
Despite his long affiliation with United and a childhood growing up in Manchester, Welbeck has given glowing praise to his new employers shortly after making the surprise switch before the end of the transfer window.
“I loved watching Thierry Henry since I was a little kid,” he said. “My two idols are Ryan Giggs and Thierry Henry so to come to the club where he was and had so much success at is something you can look up to and try to stamp your own print on the club.
“I know a lot about Arsenal. I don’t think there are many people in England who won’t know about Arsenal and what a big club this is. The stadium is fantastic and [the team] has got a legendary manager and magnificent players who have also been brought in.”
