The shirt is vacant following Lukas Podolski’s transfer to Galatasaray, but the Frenchman opted to stay with his No. 12 jersey.
And we don’t blame him. The recent history of the shirt suggests that it might be cursed.
Here, fanatix remembers Arsenal’s last 10 No. 9s.
1. Lukas Podolski (2012-2015)
Arsenal’s most recent No. 9 was a prolific international goal-getter who never really replicated his Germany form for the Gunners. Podolski bagged 31 times in 82 games before moving to Turkey.
2. Park Chu-Young (2011-2012)
The unknown South Korean was surprisingly given the burden upon arriving at the Emirates in 2011, but managed only a single Capital One Cup goal before stepping aside for Podolski.
