Ozil was close to joining PSG this summer…
Arsenal’s record £42m summer signing Mesut Ozil could have joined PSG instead, reports ESPN.
Arsene Wenger managed to convince the outstanding German playmaker to join the Emirates side on transfer deadline day, transforming the Gunners from top four hopefuls into genuine title contenders.
Like proposed deals for Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain though, the Ozil deal could so easily have fallen through, with PSG manager Laurent Blanc admitting his side targeted the 24-year-old.
“Even with the failure to bring Ozil, PSG still had a super transfer window as they signed Edinson Cavani from Napoli, Roma defender Marquinhos and full-back Lucas Digne for a combined fee of £100m,” he said.
