Gunners still look to haggle weekly fee down.
Arsenal could be set to end their interest in Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira as his demands to become the club’s highest paid player could scupper the deal, according to the Daily Mirror.
Arsene Wenger wants to make the £23.5million Germany superstar his second major signing of the window following the £33m acquisition of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona last week.
However, despite having just one year left on his current deal at the Sanitago Bernabeu the Gunners are insisting that they will not be held to ransom over his demands of £150,000-per-week before bonuses.
Both Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are recording around £130,000-per-week, and Khedira’s demands would see himself catapult above them as he continues to reject new offers to stay at the Bernabeu next summer.
The 27-year-old is keen to capitalise on his recent successes of lifting the Champions League and the World Cup this summer.
Elsewhere, Arsenal are expected to announce the signing of Newcastle United defender Mathieu Debuchy this week as they finally hope to end their search for a new right-back to replace Bacary Sagna after he defected to Manchester City at the end of the previous campaign.
