Catalans lining-up bids for either Belgian or Liverpool’s Agger.
Barcelona want to sign either Arsenal centre-half Thomas Vermaelen or Liverpool’s Daniel Agger, according to The Sun.
The La Liga giants reportedly want to sign a defender who can fit ‘their style of building attacks from the back’ – whatever that means – and need defensive reinforcements with skipper Carles Puyol, 34, and left-back Eric Abidal, 33, nearing retirement.
The tabloid reports that Borussia Dortmund centre-half Mats Hummels was the Catalans’ first choice but the Bundesliga outfit are holding out for too much money, leaving Vermaelen and Agger in the frame.
Runway La Liga leaders Barca reportedly considered a bid for Agger, 28, last summer, when Manchester City had a £20m offer rejected by the Anfield club.
The Sun believes the Vermaelen, 27, is ‘well thought of’ at the Nou Camp and suggest that a bid of £15m would tempt the Gunners to sell.
The Belgium international is Arsenal’s captain but has been disappointing this season, starting 24 games but failing to provide a goal or assist and looking shaky defensively.
If Vermalen leaves, it will be the third summer running that Arsenal have sold their captain after the departures of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and Robin van Persie to Manchester United.
The Mirror reported today that Agger is the man Barcelona want to replace Puyol this summer.
