Gunners seek goal machine to fire them to the top.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has drawn up a three-man shortlist of world class strikers to bring to the club this summer in order ensure that his side don’t fall away in the title race like they did last season, according to Inside Futbol.
Last summer Wenger was chasing high profile names such as Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain, but proved frustrated as the former ended up staying with Liverpool, while the latter left to link up with Napoli instead.
After breaking the club’s transfer record on Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil, he was left with only Olivier Giroud to lead the club’s front line, something which he is determined not to repeat again this time around.
Wenger has kept an eye on all of Europe’s major leagues this term and has now apparently narrowed his shortlist down to three names, and he will decide who to move for in the coming weeks.
According to reports in Spain, the Gunners boss has held a long standing interest in Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic, and has been encouraged to make a move for him now that he has announced his desire to leave the Bundesliga champions in the wake of Robert Lewandowski’s arrival.
Wenger is also keeping close tabs on AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli after the Italians suggested that he could be available for the right price this summer. The former Manchester City man has apparently grown disillusioned with life at the San Siro and would be open to a return to the Premier League this summer.
And finally, the Frenchman has billed Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema as his final top choice. However, Benzema’s availability is not known as he spearheads the three point attack in the Spanish capital alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
