Arsene Wenger hoping two Arsenal stars stay next season
A dominating 4-0 victory over Aston Villa to win the FA Cup Finals has done little to discourage Arsene Wenger from wanting even more glory, as the Arsenal manager declared he is still hungry for more.
Following the win where Arsenal retained the FA Cup, Wenger stated after the game that although his future with the club is uncertain, his “hunger is great” and has not diminished at all.
“I don’t know (about my future with Arsenal). That’s difficult to say. I have two more years contract,” Wenger said, according to BBC Sport. “I will just sit down with my directors and see how much they believe and trust. My hunger is great but I want to do well.”
Since taking over the club as manager in 1996, Wenger has captured six FA Cups – giving Arsenal an FA Cup record 12 wins – along with three Premier League titles and is a three-time Premier League Manager of the Season. Wenger was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
“Overall we have shown again today we’re a real team,” Wenger said. “We’ve made progress, we can deal with pressure. I would like to congratulate everybody; my staff, the players, the fans who were great again today. We are so happy tonight. After an indifferent start it finishes well so we are very happy.
“Honestly I had a difficult week. It was very difficult decisions to make, from the keeper to the centre forward. But when the confidence is good and the spirit is so high in our team it helps. I’m very proud that our club is doing well. If I can personally do well… it’s even better.”
