Wenger will be feeling the pressure to sign a new centre-back after failing to replace Thomas Vermaelen following his move to Barcelona over the summer having been forced to use full-back Nacho Monreal as a makeshift centre-half.
It is thought that Wenger will make a move for either Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar or Celtic stopper Virgil Van Dijk, as more prominent names won’t be available until the summer.
Wenger has also been criticised for not signing a defensive midfielder over the summer, though, and may also look to rectify that should the sight players become available.
