Mega-rich French club are keen on the England forward.
Ligue 2 outfit AS Monaco are interested in signing Manchester United front man Wayne Rooney at the end of the season, according to reports in the Daily Star.
The England international was recently left out of the Red Devils starting line-up by head coach Sir Alex Ferguson for the club’s biggest match of the season, last week’s Champions League second leg last 16 clash with La Liga champions Real Madrid at Old Trafford.
And, as a result, there has since been a wave of speculation in the British press suggesting that the 27-year-old’s time at United is nearing an end – something Ferguson was quick to rubbish in his weekly press conference ahead of the club’s FA Cup quarter-final with Chelsea on Sunday.
However, Monaco’s billionaire Russian owner Dmitry Rybolovlev is reportedly keen to bring the striker to the Principality this summer and will offer Rooney an eye-catching contract that will better his current deal at United.
Rooney would be unlikely to want to drop to the second tier of French football, but there has been heavy investment at AS Monaco and they are hopeful of reaching Ligue 1 for next season.
