One is vital to their side whilst the other looks destined for an exit – Roma are set to cover all their options with bids for both.
With Daniel Osvaldo already at Southampton and Eric Lamela on his way to Tottenham Hotspur, AS Roma are looking to strengthen their attack with moves for two Premier League stars.
The Daily Star believe that Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini is set to pursue two very different targets – Demba Ba and Christian Benteke.
Christian Benteke was possibly the most sought-after player in the Premier League at the start of this transfer window, his scintillating form helping Aston Villa survive the threat of relegation and establish him as one of the most dangerous strikers in the league.
After much interest from Tottenham Hotspur, the player eventually decided to sign a new contract at Aston Villa set to keep the Belgian at the club for another three years. Despite that, Roma are apparently preparing to test Villa’s resilience with a bid.
Demba Ba’s situation could hardly be more different. After a season-and-a-half of prolific goalscoring for Newcastle United, Chelsea made good on the striker’s £7m release clause and signed the Senegalese target man just seven months ago.
However, a combination of a lack of form and a lack of regular football means that the forward is now on the fringes of the Chelsea first team. A move away from Stamford Bridge seems likely – both to make way for the arrival of either Samuel Eto’o or Wayne Rooney, and because the striker is widely accepted as good enough to start for almost any other team in the Premier League.
