Steve Smith
B+
Like Chris Rogers, Smith played exceptionally well in the first innings at Manchester only to be denied a potentially career-defining ton when he tried to belt Graeme Swann while on 89.
Smith’s technique and poise at the crease have improved remarkably in the past two seasons after he has dedicated himself to become a fully fledged batsman, rather than a bowling all-rounder.
He has done enough to ensure he will be a key player for Australia in not just this series, but the return leg, despite a series average of 29. 6 with the bat and four wickets.
