Swansea City captain Ashley Williams has admitted that he and his Swans team-mates are delighted that head coach Michael Laudrup has extended his contract with the South Wales outfit for another season, reports the Daily Mail.
The one time Denmark international put pen to paper on the one-year contract extension to keep him at the Liberty Stadium until the end of the 2014-15 season on Saturday, just prior to the Swans’ 1-0 loss at West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.
Laudrup guided Swansea to the finest moment in their history earlier this month when they beat Bradford City 5-0 to claim the League Cup.
The Jack are also flying high in the Premier League and in with a shout of finishing inside the top eight.
However, Wales international Williams also issued a word of caution, stressing that despite Laudrup agreeing his new deal, the Dane can still be lured away from Swansea were a suitability attractive offer to arrive for his services, with La Liga giants Real Madrid reportedly keen to bring the Swansea boss to the Spanish capital this summer.
“We’re pleased the gaffer signed the contract. We’ve enjoyed the season working with him,” said Williams.
“He’s been linked to other teams which shows he’s doing his job properly. That’s normal.
“He signed a new contract and I don’t think any of us knew he was going to do that. It was a nice surprise.
“We all know the gaffer could get an offer he feels he wants and the club want to take it.
“You never know what could happen. It’s important we all try hard to stick together.”
