Paul Lambert eager to start talks with Christian Benteke over a new long-term deal.
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is keen to begin contract negotiations with front man Christian Benteke, in order to lock down the player to a mutli-year contract with the club.
Benteke has attracted the interest of a number of Premier League clubs this season, including north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham.
But Lambert is hoping to put the speculation to bed soon.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Lambert was quick to praise the Belgian, and says he is eager to sit down with the 22-year-old to discuss a new deal.
“Christian is one of a few who have been brilliant for us, collectively as a team and individuals they’ve been great,” Lambert said.
“We’re coming to the end of the season and yes, we’ll sit them down and try to get things done.”
The striker has scored 19 goals for the Villains this season, and has been a talisman for the club in their battle against relegation.
While Lambert will try his best to keep the Belgium international this summer, the lure of European football with a bigger Premier League club may be too much for the young striker to resist.
