After a difficult start to his Villa career following his move from Leeds United, where injuries plagued much of his early days at the club, Delph has now established himself as a first-team regular.
There was speculation earlier this season that he was willing to jump ship as Paul Lambert’s side continued to fall closer to the Premier League’s relegation zone. But under new boss, Tim Sherwood, the England international has been a driving force behind a slight recovery, that should keep the Villains in the top flight for another year.
Nevertheless, Louis van Gaal has looked at the midfielder as a potential target as he tries to bolster his options after a tough campaign.
Delph featured in today’s 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford, but it appears the loss has not put off the Dutchman, who could try prise the 25-year-old away after six years with the Midlands club.
