Aston Villa begin their 2013-14 Premier League fixtures with matches against Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea – a real test for Paul Lambert and his young team.
Aston Villa face a real test to open the 2013-14 Premier League season, with fixtures against Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.
Paul Lambert’s side first travel to face the Gunners at Emirates Stadium, before hosting Liverpool – who of course they did the double over last season – before visiting Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and it will be interesting to see the reaction from manager, players and fans if the games do not go as Villa hope.
Lambert has transformed Aston Villa in the last season or so he has been in charge, with the release of some of the team’s deadwood and highly paid veterans in favour of a younger passing side.
The Villains battled with relegation last season, but ultimately overcame it, and if the club can keep their best players such as Christian Benteke, they could build on the previous campaign.
The fact that Villa’s opening three fixtures are all before the end of the transfer window is an ominous sign.
If the club begin with a poor run, some players may want to jump ship, making these three games all the more important for Paul Lambert and Aston Villa.
