Laursen hails club’s scouting network as Okore emerges as top target.
Aston Villa target Jores Okore has received a glowing recommendation from ex-defender Martin Laursen as the club look to step up their chase of the youngster.
Villa are understood to be in ongoing negotiations with the 20-year-old, and Villa fans will have an ideal opportunity to see the youngster in action as he looks set to play for the national team against Armenia on Tuesday night.
More importantly, former club defender Laursen has given the seal of approval to Okore, and believes he has great potential and the characteristics to be a great success in the Premier League.
Okore helped his club win the league title in 2012, and as a result played in the Champions League this past season where he took on the likes of Juventus and Chelsea.
While there are still areas of his game where he can improve, Laursen believes his raw potential should be enough for Villa to sign the starlet, while noting that he will continue to improve with experience.
The Villa fans favourite continued by adding that Okore’s desire for regular first team action put him off the chance of signing for Chelsea back in January, but believes under Paul Lambert at Villa Park he will have the ideal situation to continue his development.
“He’s very fast and physically really strong – he is a big boy,” Laursen is quoted as saying by the Birmingham Mail.
“I think he’s got the right mentality. He sounds like a very nice person with both feet on the ground and he wants to work hard, so that’s very important.
“He is definitely one of the best defenders in Denmark,” he concluded.
Lambert has built his team on youth over the past year, and after Andreas Weimann signed a new with the club yesterday, it appears they will be adding more promising talents to the squad over the summer.
